Presenting a colourful, complex and thought-provoking programme, the 2009 festival moved from Dundee to a new home at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh. Alongside celebrated productions from Belgium, Germany, Scotland and Spain, the leading English company 1927 appeared at MANIPULATE for the first time with its landmark show, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. Paul Zaloom, one of the USA’s most acclaimed, iconoclastic puppeteers, presented The Mother of all Enemies, with great success. And the 2009 programme also included our first Snapshots: [email protected] event, in which Scottish-based artists performed excerpts of works in progress to an appreciative and supportive audience.
