Innovative theatre arts for consenting adults
Presented every February at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, manipulate brings us the opportunity to bring powerful and challenging work of the highest quality from around the world to Scotland.
It allows us to promote world class animation and puppetry – and related performing arts of all styles and techniques – to the widest possible audiences, both within the Scottish arts community and the general public.
The Festival is produced in association with the Traverse Theatre -
Scotland's New Writing Theatre. This Edinburgh theatre is a natural home
for manipulate as it is a theatre that embraces challenging work and
has at its helm an Artistic Director who is a supporter of the artform
of puppetry for both adults and children.
manipulate also provides an arena for us to create significant development opportunities for Scottish practitioners to develop further their artistic and technical working practices.
Puppet Animation Scotland
The manipulate Visual Theatre Festival is produced by Puppet Animation Scotland, an organisation that is dedicated to the advocacy, development and celebration of the artforms of puppetry and animation in Scotland. Puppet Animation Scotland also organises the Puppet Animation Festival which is a six week nationwide festival for children.
